Worship in our Churches
We can approach God in different ways and this is reflected in our styles of worship, helping us to meet with him and be refreshed as we go into the world to serve him.
In the smaller churches our worship tends to be traditional, with services from the Book of Common Prayer. Lady St Mary and Sandford St Martin churches have a more contemporary service of Holy Communion from Common Worship, as well as a modern praise service. A reflective service offering a time of contemplative prayer is held on the first Sunday of the month in the Edward chapel of Lady St Mary Church, and normally ‘Breakfast Church' at Sandford St Martin. Breakfast church all-age service takes place at Sandford St Martin's on Sundays at 9am. The service lasts for about 40 minutes and is suitable for all ages, with singing, a Bible story, short talk, and prayers. All are welcome!
On Wednesdays there is an 11.00am Holy Communion service at St Martin on the Walls, Wareham.
On a fifth Sunday of the month, and at other significant times, there is a united service in which all five congregations join together to praise God in a style that can vary from traditional to informal.
In James chapter 5 we read: ‘Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.’ In accordance with this, we hold a Christian healing service once a quarter in Lady St Mary Church.
